Dr. Jiban Podder was born in Narayangong, Bangladesh on 24th December 1959. He received his B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Physics from Dhaka University in 1980 and 1981 respectively. He joined the 'Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission' as a Scientific Officer in 1987. He was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Physics, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology in 1989. He became an Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 1998 and full Professor in 2002. Podder received his M.Phil in 1987 and Ph. D. degree in Physics from BUET-Anna University joint support in 1995 respectively. His research interests include crystal growth, carbonaceous materials, thin films for solar cells. He was the chairman of this department during 2006-2007. Dr. Podder has supervised so far 6 M.Sc, 26 M. Phil. and 3 Ph.D students. So far, Prof. Podder has been evaluated 80 Ph.D. theses as foreign external examiner. He has published over 130 research papers in refereed journals on the theoretical and experimental aspects of crystal growth with particular attention to the growth phenomena, growth kinetics of crystal faces,and relationships between morphology and crystal structure.
